He is a minister.

Formentera, Spain

"When the setting is Ses Illetes, the interior design has a single mission: open up to it and shut nothing off"

Es Ministre is not just a restaurant: it is part of Formentera’s landscape. Founded in 1971 by a fisherman who began by serving his own catch on the shore, it has spent more than fifty years and three generations of the same family as the benchmark for Ses Illetes. The interior design intervention captures that legacy and translates it into a contemporary experience: a light, open concept that prioritises visual continuity with the sea, with the breeze and the light as essential elements of the space. The design does not impose itself; it complements.

Right on the beach, within the Ses Salines Natural Park, the project centres on dissolving the boundary between inside and outside as its core strategy. Natural materials and Mediterranean-inspired furnishings enhance a relaxed, authentic atmosphere, where views over the turquoise waters of Ses Illetes are the most important compositional element. A space where design, gastronomy and landscape coexist organically, with none of the three overshadowing the others.

Key Spaces

Main terrace

The heart of the project. A large terrace open directly onto the beach, where the sea views are the true focus. The intervention frames the landscape without covering it, allowing light, wind and the sound of the water to become part of every meal.

Indoor area

A transitional space between the street and the sea, treated with the same lightness and material coherence as the exterior. Filtered natural light, honest materials and a scale that invites you to stay.

Tender service

The restaurant extends right down to the water. The tender service brings the Es Ministre experience on board, extending the project's space beyond its physical limits and confirming that here the sea is not the backdrop: it is the direction.

Details

Colour palette

Sand, white and the impossible blue of Ses Illetes. A palette that is not designed: it is found. The interior design has the intelligence not to compete with it.

Materials and textures

Natural, honest and Mediterranean. Materials that withstand the sun, the salt and the passage of time, and that blend in as naturally as the vegetation surrounding the natural park.

Furnishings

Mediterranean-inspired and with simple lines. Pieces designed to last and for the body to relax in, without artifice, with the sea in front.

Lighting

The light of Ses Illetes, which changes colour every hour, does the work during the day. At dusk, warm and discreet lighting extends the magic of the place without interfering with the spectacle already offered by the horizon.
